Don’t develop, play!

News DonOver the past week, I’ve taken to whining about my lack of a convincing Internet connection. By which I mean, of course, that its horrendously low speed sometimes fails to convince me that I’m even online at all.

Still, it affords me the opportunity to kick back and load up pages and pages of interesting Web text to trawl through, and within today’s flurry of ASCII was an opinion piece printed in GameSetWatch lamenting the lack of time that game developers spend actually playing games.

Yes, it seems to be a point of pride amongst people that one does not take the label of “game developer” and use it to justify whittling away their time on all sorts of interactive malarkey. The opinion, however, argues that this defeats gamecrafting to a certain extent. I’m tempted to agree, if only because it gives me a brilliant excuse to play Sonny 2 and call it “research”.

… not that it would load up on my current connection, mind you. Excuse me while I go off to sulk about my slow Internet.
